It’s the end of the school year? Seriously?

hard to believe we’re weeks away from sending our latest batch of seniors out into the world.

where did the year go?

one highlight: teaching Steinbeck’s The Red Pony and riding my “pony” through class, yee-hawing at the top of my lungs each period. thoroughly embarrassed the crap out of my students. it was good.

if i’ve not said it recently: i love teaching. i love teaching English. i love teaching high school English.

I love high school students and college students, too. I love their openness to new ideas, their exhilaration with new ideas, and their discovery that not everyone thinks like they do. Teaching lit – you never really know what each new day will bring, and what you will learn from your students. :-)

I have to admit, their grammar, punctuation and spelling break my heart.

Your students are so lucky to have a guy teaching them that is fresh and caring. I hope you are able to find a way to bike to school without having to risk your life.
