baker college online: grammar FAIL Contest!!

dunno about you, but if i were looking for an online college and ran across the following ad, i’d run quickly in the opposite direction.

doesn’t anyone proof these before they’re put out, or is it just that no one notices except folks with grammar fetishes?

bakeronline-grammar

where’s my red ink Internet pen when i need it??

anyone who can not only point out the error but also:

  • explain why it’s incorrect and
  • fix the error

will have their name put in a hat and i will draw one name for the following prizes:

  • a sheet of sparkly star stickers to show your friends how smart you are!
  • a Santa hat viciously ripped off the top of a dog toy by my dog!
  • a couple of beautiful seashells pulled straight out of the Gulf of Mexico!
  • an autographed picture of my shrinking manboobs!

to be eligible to win said prizes, you must live in the continental US.

Deadline: Midnight (Central time) on Tuesday August 25, 2009. NO CHEATING! don’t read the other comments until you’ve made your own!

Then/than. Classic error! Then conveys the passing of time. Than relates one thing to another.

I LIVE for these sorts of grammar mistakes. Geeks of the world, unite!

Okay, so it was past the deadline, but I did notice an error no else pointed out. “100% online.” is a sentence fragment, and so is “50% less then the average cost.” The only sentence, “Learn more” does not have a period. Now I want to know 50% less then the average cost of what?

If you are 50% less “than” the average, doesn’t that lower the the average.. making your 50% smaller… lowering the average again…. “I’m always chasing rainbows”

“Then” should be “than” because we’re talking quantities. “Then” deals with order of events (Do this, THEN do that), whereas “than” deals with being more or less THAN, or also other THAN.

I’m really hoping for that man boobs picture…

Lol. That’s awful… My entry: then should be than. Reasoning: then implies a temporal succession, i. e. I’m going to the store, then going home. Than is comparative: ten is less than twenty.

I hope you didn’t faint. It was a joke. I once received an ad from a printing company that had so many typos I then and there vowed never to do business with said company.

Oh Oh!…..Mr. Rust…..I know…..it’s “then”. Should be “than”. Got enough shirtless pic of you on my facebook page though. I’ll just be happy with the satisfaction of being first to answer.

Awesome. Obviously, it should be “50% fewer then”
